まぜこぜエッチングJumbled etching ４

昨日のプレートの上に、アクアチントをのせ、一部をストップ・アウトで止めました。で、刷ってみましたら、案外気に入りました。
一目見た時、「錦鯉みたい！」と思った私は、とっても日本人でした。１枚のプレートなのに、何枚か重ねて刷って、しかもそれがズレたように見えてオモシロイです。
これで今回の（次回もあるのか？）「まぜこぜ」は終了します！お疲れ様でした。
I put aquatint on the yesterday's plate. Then prited it out. I liked it. Looks like the skin of a Koi carp I thought... This is the end for this jumbled etching!

紙の間に切れ目があるのは、大きめの紙を用意していなかったので、小さいの２枚を重ねたから…というレイジーさ。
I didn't prepare large paper so used 2 small pieces instead... that's why there is a gap. 

ｿﾌﾄｸﾞﾗｳﾝﾄﾞとﾎﾜｲﾄ･ｽﾋﾟﾘｯﾄ Softground & whitespirit

ソフトグラウンドの上に、ホワイトスピリットを筆で撒き散らして、その部分を溶かそうとしました。でも、そんなにすぐにグラウンドは溶けませんでした。
で、そっと上からティッシュをのせ、ホワイトスピリットを吸い取らせつつ、その下のグラウンドも一緒に剝ぎとりました。
…ちなみに、こんな方法は、深澤氏の本には書いてありませんので、念のため…ははは。

グラウンドには、ソフトとハードがあります。溶かすワックスも２種類あって、ローラーも２種類です。
ワックスは触ってみて固ければハード、爪の跡がつくならソフトですが、ローラーを見分けるには…
There are 2 different types of ground. So there are 2 different wax and 2 different rollers as well. Hard and Soft. 
The way of recgnizing the difference of the wax is to touch them. And how to recognize the rollers is...

取っ手に手で彫ってある「S」と「H」で見分けます。Sはソフトで、Hはハード…これを間違えると大変です。
その昔、まだファンデーションコース（大学へ入る為の準備コースのようなモノ）の時に、テクニシャンに見つかって、２０分近く、彼がホットプレートの上でローラーのワックスを溶かしはがすのを、片端から布で拭き取る「手伝い」をさせられました。
To check the letters on their handles. 'S'  for softground and  'H' for hard. If you use them the wrong way round, you must melt the entire ground off and wipe them up with the clothes on the hot plate. It takes more than 20min... The reason I can tell the time, because I did it once in my foundation course... good memory and I never mistaken them since!　

今の大学では、ローラーの置いてある所に、こーんな怖い顔が貼ってあって、間違えないように睨みつけていてくれます。
Now, for the current course, there is this big brother kind of face watching us on the wall.

ストップ・アウトStop out varnish

昨日と同じ方法で、今度はストップ・アウト・バーニッシュを筆で飛ばしてみました。
I splashed stopout varnish this time.

ストップ・アウト・バーニッシュは、濃度の濃い薄いで二種類用意してあります。
今日は弾き飛ばすので、薄い方を使いました。
There is a couple of varnishes prepared in my college.
Thin and thick. I used thin stuff for this plate.

昨日と比べると、飛沫の大小がはっきりして、これはこれでオモシロイ！


私のスタジオ・スペースは毎日、こんな感じです。
銀色に光り輝いているのは、ご自慢のミニミニ冷蔵庫！
I have a small refrigerate on my desk!




ちゃんと、学校の用務員さん（！）のチェックも受けています。
It is properly checked by the college electrician!

まぜこぜエッチングJumbled etching ３

今までのを刷ってみました。
なんかボヤンとしている・・・もうちょっと他のこともやってみよう。続きはまた明日。
I printed yesterday's plate... It is a bit blur so i carry on etching tomorrow.

黒麦わら帽ﾊﾞｰﾆｯｼｭ（!?）Black Straw hat varnish

ブラック・ストローハット・バーニッシュ（＝黒い麦わら帽子バーニッシュ!!?）という液体があります。普段は、プレートの裏をカバーするのに使う、ストップアウト・バーニッシュよりずっとサラサラした液体です。これを筆で一面に振りかけてみました。

Black strawhat varnish splashed on a copper plate. Normally, this is for covering up the otherside of the plate.
 
これが今のところ、最もコントロールしやすい方法です。気に入りましたぁ！
すぐに乾くし。以前アクアチントの代わりに、ラッカースプレーをかける方法をしたことがあるけれど、こちらの方が安全です。もっとも、均等にというわけにはいきませんけど。
This liquid is the most controllable way to me to cover the surface. Once I tried the lacquer spray instead of aquatint but this way is much more safer.

昨日のプレートを酸に浸けます。酸に入ると、ハードグラウンドにカバーされていない、むき出しの亜鉛が酸に溶け、そこから小さな泡がプチプチと出てきます。これを放っておくと、泡の空気が酸に溶けるのを妨げるので、時々刷毛でその泡をどかします。
大学でもファンデーション・コースでも、白い鳥の羽を使っていました。が、テクニシャン・アランおじさんは、ある時、羽が軽いので生徒がうっかり酸を撒き散らす所を見て以来、このどっしりした刷毛にしたそうです。
たしかにこれで充分。羽は、酸に浸かるとすぐ黄色くなりますし、すぐダメになりますしね。素敵だけど。
I soaked the plate in 3.5% Nitric Acid. 
In the acid, zinc surface gets bubbled and it is needed to be wiped away. Our technician doesn't recommend us to use feathers. This heavy brush does work enough and be able to avoid accidental splash! he says.

今日２つ目のブログです。2nd blog for today.
色々なエッチングの方法を、一つのプレートに幾つか重ねることにしました。
I started to try a few other etching methods together on one plate.








ハードグラウンドの上に、細い金具でぐるぐる、ぐるぐる。
今日はこれだけ。
On the hardground, I drew fine lines with a etching tool.
This is enough for today!
