ねんどで版画 Print with clay

これはガラスの模様を、まず粘土でかたどり、それにインクをのせプリントしたものです。こういうやり方を日本語で何というか分かりません。
This is a mark taked from the glass with the clay then printed.



全く別の物に見えますが、実物大のホンモノです。この部分が私には面白いです。
It looks very different yet it is exactly the real mark... this makes me facsinating.




このやり方で今まで作品を作ってきました。
This is the way I made works so far.

準備 Preparation

日本に帰ったら、木版画！と思っていたので、風邪も治まってきた事だし、材料を買ってきました。
I was planning to do woodcut while I am in Japan so I bought a set of woodcutting.

木目がちゃんと刷られている！
I am glad that the grain of the wood block is printed out. 







でも、版を彫っていくという工程には「予想不可能」なことは、あまり起こりません。これは私の作品にはならないだろうなぁ・・・私にとっての版画の魅力は、予想不可能なところにあるのです。However, there is no 'unpredictable happening' in the process of woodcutting... so I don't think this will be my art. Only the unpredictability attracts me in the printmaking so far.


ところで、彫刻刀のケースが素晴らしいです。取り出しやすいようになっているのだ！By the way, the chisel case is cleverly made! It is designed to pick up the chisel easily.

クリスマスの終わり…End of Christmas day

今年のクリスマスは終わりました。
叔父のカフェ･レストランで、家族揃ってクリスマス･ディナーをしました。
Christmas has gone.
My familiy had Christmas dinner at my uncle's cafe restaurant.








フランス料理ですが、シェフはお箸を用意してくれていて、それが楽しいです。
真ん中のポタージュは紫芋！
Even it is French style food, the chef served us chopsticks. 
The middle dish is purple sweetpotate cream soup!

銀座の街のクリスマス･デコレーションは今日までで、これから朝までに、全ての飾りを取り外し、お正月の準備に入るそうです。
Christmas decorations in Ginza will be all changed for the preparation of New year's day until tomorrow morning!

お祭り騒ぎの後、夜遅くまで働く人々の上に、月が綺麗です。
The winter moon shines clearly  upon people works so hard in the late night...

次は年賀状！皆さんは出しましたかぁ？
Now is the time for the New year's card. It is all delivered on the exact New year's day, 1st January!

ページェント Pageant

今日はクリスマス･イブです。Christmas Eve, today.
イギリスでは２４･２５日はお休みで、公共の交通機関まで休みになります。でも、日本は２５日は普通の日なので、私の教会では、クリスマスの日に礼拝はなく、２４日の今日、夕方に礼拝がありました。
24and25th are public holiday in Britain. Even public transports stop running. However 25th is normal day  in Japan so we do not have any service in my church on Christmas day. Instead we had an evening service tonight on 24th.

写真は毎年、子供達が演じるクリスマス劇・ページェントです。聖書の通り、しかも子供にわかり易いように、神の子イェスが、人の姿をとってこの世に生まれたことを伝える劇です。クリスマス･プレゼントの本当の意味･･･この世に贈られた最初のプレゼントは、イェス様ご自身であった・･･それを私達に教えてくれます。
The photo is the pageant, Christmas story. It shows us how the son of God came to the world as a baby and tells us the first Christmas present was baby Jesus himself!

うちの教会では、毎年同じ台本や大道具をもとに劇が演じられます。でも、子供達はドンドン大きくなるので、ちょっと前まで小さな星の役をやっていた子が、ヨセフとマリアを追い出す意地悪宿屋の役をやったりして、ビックリします。
The play is based on the same script every year but children is growing up. So a girl who played a small star until quite recent is now a landlady who meanly rejects Joseph and Mary!
面白いのは小さい子達。羊の役です。オムツの上に、羊の衣装のもこもこしたパンツをはきます。お母さん達が羊飼いの役。そうでないと、ホントに迷える羊になって、どこかへ行っちゃったりします。
It is funny that small children play sheep who wear white pants over the nuppy... they are shepherded by their mothers otherwise they will be lost!

クリスマスの日曜日 Christmas Sunday

日本の家にある小さな自然･･･日曜日は創造主の御業を日々の暮らしに探します。今日はクリスマスに最も近い日曜日、世界中で今日クリスマス礼拝が持たれます。
The green near my house in Japan... Sundays are for seaking the Creator's work in everyday life.

クリスマスの色：緑は永遠を、赤はキリストの血を、そして白は神聖さを表すと聞いています。
Christmas colour: Green means eternity, red is the blood of Jesus and white represents holiness so I heard.

我が家 探索 My house viewing

土曜日は展覧会レポートと勝手に決めていましたけど、まだまだ風邪が抜けないのと時差ぼけで、とても出かけられません。・・・で、一年振りの自分の家を見学。我が家は、新旧入り混じっています。その点に注目して写真を撮ったけど･･･果たして、人様がご覧になって面白いのであろうか･･･
I wanted my Saterday blog to be a show report but I am still suffering from cold and jet lag... So I decided to look at my house especially from the point of mixture of the new and the old. However, I am not sure people who kindly see my blog will be ok with it...
まずは新しい物、浄水器。母はこういう物が好きなので、これで４･５代目･･･
The new thing to start. This is a water purifier. My mother likes these appliances so this must be 4・5th generation...








次はちょっと失礼致しますが･･･我が家の改装したトイレ。センサーが働いて、扉を開けると同時に明るくなります。便座のフタも自動で開く･･･知らないとちょっと怖い！父が少し身体が不自由なので、思い切ってしたそうですが、大成功でした。
Next is... excuse my not so decent photo of the toilet. It is recently refurbished for my desabled father. Not only the light but the lid of the toilet seat are operated by the sensor. It is a bit scary at first... but I reckon these chages were successful.


でも、この輝かしい（！）おトイレも、扉は昔のままです。昔も昔･･･今やこのガラスは流行らず、製造されていないそうです。This shiny(!) toilet still has the old door. It is so old that we cannot replace it with the same pattern of the glass. 






割れると別のガラスを入れなくてはならなくて、ちょっとかっこ悪いです･･･　どこに別のが入っているか分かります？
So if it is broken, we have to use different pattern and it looks awkward... Can you find which piece is different?






こちらは古い電気器具。昔は、下の丸いブザーを押せば、隣近所に緊急連絡ができたそうです。もうとっくの昔に元栓が切れているそうですが、私は今でも何となく触れません。叔父が小さい時、いたずらして、警察まで来て、大変怒られたと聞かされていたからです。
This is an old burglar alarm used to be connected to neighbors. It is desconnected before I was born, I still don't want touch it because I have been told that my youngest uncle once got into mischief with it and eventually police came and he got into trouble...


最後に、古い家は怖い家でもあるという写真。廊下を曲がって、家の奥へ入って行くと･･･真っ暗な奥に階段があります。一人で二階に昇れます？
Old could be scary! Turn the corner then at the bottom of thehouse, there is a staircase. Can you go up to the 1st floor alone?









 

英国のおみやげ Souvenir from London

今朝、無事に成田に着きました。風邪は何とか大丈夫でした。でも機内でお湯をもらって、溶かして飲む風邪薬を飲みつつでしたぁ。I had a cold but arrived safely in Tokyo ...kept asking hot water for 'Lemsip' 
そしてリムジンで帰ってまいりましたぁ。Ｉ　ｔｏｏｋ bus called 'Limousine' 








動いているバスから写真を撮るのって難しい・・・Taking photos from moving bus was difficult...
ところで、いつも悩むのはお土産です。Choosing souvenirs is always a headache.
日本では買えないと思う…クリスマスに食べるミンス・パイ。でも人気はありません。Mince pies... I believe I cannot get it here in Japan. Maybe because it is not so popular...
クリスマス・プディング・・・これも今一。チョコレートは大丈夫！Christmas pudding... Somehow this is not so appreciated either.But chocolate is ok!
クリスマス・ジェリーベイビーズ、私が欲しい！Chrstmas jelly babies which I want to have some!



変わったところでは、クスクス。こういうのは便利だと思うけど・・・
This must be a bit unusual but I believe these are useful! 
そして、これは今回の目玉！スモークの鯖です。日本では見たことがないので、良いのではないかと・・・ついでにブラック・プディングも。英国人でも嫌いな人が居る、血の入ったソーセージ。
This is the feature of today... Smoked mackerel! We cannot get it here. And black pudding...



他には、猫のポポにネズミのオモチャ。A toy for the cat called Popo!


そして、これらは以前に買って、気に入られなかった物・・・くるみのピクルス、ヴィクトリアン・チャツネ、そしてムルド・ワインの材料。
And these are unpopular souvenirs... Walnuts pickles, Victorian chutney and a sachet to make mulled wine.
