学期の中間にするショーInterimShow

日々、私が手にする物。それらの表面をプリントしました。朝、台所の扉を開けて、お米をといで、お味噌汁を作る・・・。その間に私が手にする物たち。それらの表面のデコボコさ、なめらかさ、ザラザラした感じ・・・
そういう感触は、知らず知らずの内に、私達の脳の記憶装置に次々と保管されていきます。
Everyday things. I collected and printed the marks from the things I touched. In a morning, I open the door to the kitchen and prepare the breakfast... rice, miso-soup, chopsticks... for British it wuld be a box of the cereals, a milk container, a spoon... the sensation of  the surfaces of everyday things gets recorded as tactile information and piled up in our memory system one after the other.

我が家 探索 My house viewing

土曜日は展覧会レポートと勝手に決めていましたけど、まだまだ風邪が抜けないのと時差ぼけで、とても出かけられません。・・・で、一年振りの自分の家を見学。我が家は、新旧入り混じっています。その点に注目して写真を撮ったけど･･･果たして、人様がご覧になって面白いのであろうか･･･
I wanted my Saterday blog to be a show report but I am still suffering from cold and jet lag... So I decided to look at my house especially from the point of mixture of the new and the old. However, I am not sure people who kindly see my blog will be ok with it...
まずは新しい物、浄水器。母はこういう物が好きなので、これで４･５代目･･･
The new thing to start. This is a water purifier. My mother likes these appliances so this must be 4・5th generation...








次はちょっと失礼致しますが･･･我が家の改装したトイレ。センサーが働いて、扉を開けると同時に明るくなります。便座のフタも自動で開く･･･知らないとちょっと怖い！父が少し身体が不自由なので、思い切ってしたそうですが、大成功でした。
Next is... excuse my not so decent photo of the toilet. It is recently refurbished for my desabled father. Not only the light but the lid of the toilet seat are operated by the sensor. It is a bit scary at first... but I reckon these chages were successful.


でも、この輝かしい（！）おトイレも、扉は昔のままです。昔も昔･･･今やこのガラスは流行らず、製造されていないそうです。This shiny(!) toilet still has the old door. It is so old that we cannot replace it with the same pattern of the glass. 






割れると別のガラスを入れなくてはならなくて、ちょっとかっこ悪いです･･･　どこに別のが入っているか分かります？
So if it is broken, we have to use different pattern and it looks awkward... Can you find which piece is different?






こちらは古い電気器具。昔は、下の丸いブザーを押せば、隣近所に緊急連絡ができたそうです。もうとっくの昔に元栓が切れているそうですが、私は今でも何となく触れません。叔父が小さい時、いたずらして、警察まで来て、大変怒られたと聞かされていたからです。
This is an old burglar alarm used to be connected to neighbors. It is desconnected before I was born, I still don't want touch it because I have been told that my youngest uncle once got into mischief with it and eventually police came and he got into trouble...


最後に、古い家は怖い家でもあるという写真。廊下を曲がって、家の奥へ入って行くと･･･真っ暗な奥に階段があります。一人で二階に昇れます？
Old could be scary! Turn the corner then at the bottom of thehouse, there is a staircase. Can you go up to the 1st floor alone?









 

ｳｪﾙｶﾑ･ｺﾚｸｼｮﾝ WellcomeCollection

土曜日は、版画はお休み。展覧会の報告です。
The exhibition report for Saturdays.

今日は、ユーストンEuston駅の目の前にある、ウェルカム・コレクションを観てきました。駅を出て、この彫刻を通り過ぎた向こうに、建物があります。
I went to Wellcome Collection in front of Euston station. Just pass this sculpture.




メディシン・マン（呪医!?）と呼ばれた、ヘンリー・ウェルカムさんのコレクションが楽しく展示してある博物館です。
This collection is established by 'Medicin man' Henry Wellcome.

今は「スリーピング＆ドリーミング」という面白い展覧会をしています。でも、そちらはカメラ禁止です。
Currently there is an interesting show called 'Sleeping and Dreaming' in the main gallery.



私の目当ては、常設展のアニー・カトレルの作品です。タイトルは「センス＝感覚器官」
五感・見る・嗅ぐ・聴く・触る・味わう、という五つの感覚が、刺激を与える脳の中の、それぞれの部分の模型です。
美しい!!!
友達に薦められて、早速観に来てホントに良かった。
My purpose to come to this show was to see Annie Cattrell. Her work titled 'Sense' is a sequence of the illustrations of the actibity patterns of the human brain as it responds to the five senses: sight, smell, hearing. touch and taste. They are amazingly beautifull, aren't they?!

これは面白かった。英国人ジュリアン・ウォーカーの作品。「アクト・オブ・フェイス=信仰の記録(?)」 
いかに人は薬に頼り、期待し、信じているか…そこに注目した作品です。写真が上手じゃないけれど、薬のタブレットが細かく刻まれて、手の形や胃の形：それぞれの薬が作用する体の部分の彫刻になっています。すごい!!!
This is Julian Walker's work called 'Acts of Faith'
Hand-carved pills, The work looks at how the ideas of faith, dependence and hope are made physical in medicine.

おみやげは、ウェルカム・コレクションの建物の中の見取り図。裏にこんな、展示物のイラストが描いてあります。
Souvenir: There are illustrations of collections at the back of the floor plan.

これが私の大好きなテート・モダンへの行き方です。
This is my favorite way to the Tate Modern.

まず、Southwark Cathedral サザック（？）・カテドラルへ向かいます。
1st to Southwark Cathedral.




テムズ河の方へ行くと、船があります。（無い時もあります…）
Go toward the Thames. There is a ship ...most of the time but not always.




向こう岸にセント・ポール寺院が見えてきます。
St.Paul on the other side of the river.






そして左手に、シェイクスピアのグローブ座。
The Grove theatre on the left, then...








その先に、目指すテート・モダンです。

ﾃｰﾄ･ﾓﾀﾞﾝ･ﾀｰﾋﾞﾝﾎｰﾙTate Modern Turbine Hall

テート・モダン美術館に入ってすぐのタービン・ホールと呼ばれる、７階まで吹き抜けの展示場は、今回はDoris Salcedo（ドリス・サルシードと読むのかな?）　コロンビア人のアーティストです。
The Turbine Hall artist is Doris Salcedo. She is a Colombian artist.












作品のタイトルは「Shibboleth」　カタカナで書くなら「シボレス」かな？
聖書の言葉です。日本語の聖書では「シイボレト」です。
The title is 'Shibboleth' The word is originally from the Bible.

リーダース英和辞典によれば、（特定の階級や団体などの）特殊な合言葉、言葉遣いだそうで、旧約聖書・士師記１２章６節から来ている、とあります。
その箇所には、要約してこんなことが書いてあります。
エフライム人がヨルダン川を渡り、敵地ギレアド人の土地に入ろうとすると、その渡し場で「エフライム人か？」と聞かれ、「違う」と答えると、「ではシイボレトと言ってみよ」と言われます。エフライム人には、その発音ができません。バレて、その場で殺されます。そういう厳しい話です。
The book of Judges describes how the Ephraimites, attempting to flee across the river Jordan, were stopped by their enemies, the Gileadites. As their dialect did not inclyde a 'sh' sound, those who could not say the word 'Shibboleth' were caputured and executed. (From the exhibition leaflet  written by Martin Herbert)
...heavy story.

彼女はこの言葉によって、また美術館の石の床に深く刻まれた亀裂によって、人種差別を、その消えない歴史上の傷を示唆します。
彼女は、自国コロンビアを含む元植民地の国々と、それを支配していた、ここイギリスを含むヨーロッパの国々との歴史が、今や無視され、忘れ去られようとしていることに、注目を促すのです。
また同時に、この美術館の名前にもある「モダン」＝現代が、ヨーロッパ独占の排他的であるということにも、その床に亀裂を置くことで、根本的に、そして真っ向から挑戦しています。
For Salcedo, the crack reveals a 'colonial and imperial history [that] has been disregarded, marginalised or simply obliterated... teh history of racism, running parallel to the history of modernity and... its unfold dark side.'(ditto)

私はこの作品を見て、大学に帰ったら、先生たち全員に、また他の生徒たち全員に、「この作品をどう思うか！？」と聞いてみたい衝動にかられました。この亀裂は、私の心の傷だとも思いました。
ま、日本は思想的には違っても、歴史的にはヨーロッパ側となるわけですが…
英語の不自由な外国人学生として、イギリス文化を前提とした美大で芸術を語るのには、歯がゆいこと、理解されないことが多々あること…これが今、目の前にある問題ですから、私は完全に差別されている側として、この作品を観るわけです。
もし、イギリスに住んでいなかったら、それも美術を勉強していなかったら、どのようにこの作品を観たんだろうな。

When I saw this work, I became eagar to ask all tutors and all other students their opinion about this work. Also I saw this crack as a wound in my heart. 
Not culturally but historically Japan must be on the European side to China and Korea.. etc.
However, I see myself as the colonial. Being an oversea student here who has to discuss everything under the British cultural understandings is very tough. There is a lot of misunderstanding and irretation and... some wrong and silly stereotype expectations from other students or even tutors. 
If I am not here as such, how would I see this work I wonder...!?

テート・モダン子供用常設展示TateModern for children

今日は、テート・モダン美術館へ行くつもりでしたが…地下鉄が一部お休みで、しかもお腹を壊したので、家でおとなしくしています。せっかくBlogを始めて二回目の土曜日なのに、ガッカリ…
ウィークデイに観に行った小さなショーは写真を撮らなかったし…
仕方が無いから、以前に撮った、テート・モダンの子供の為の常設展示の写真です。（もちろん大人も楽しめます）
…そういえば、今日からブログ・ランキングにも参加を始めたのになぁ…
I wanted to go to Tate modern but because of engineering works and ...a stomachache... I am staying home now. So instead of Louise Bourgeois report, I' ve put photoes of permanent displays here which children can play with.

ベネチア・ビエンナーレLa Biennale di Venezia

土曜日は、版画はお休みです。
今日は、学校で出かけたベネチア・ビエンナーレのことを少しご報告。


3冊セットのカタログを買ってきました！重かった。
たくさん書きたいことはあるけれど・・・

しぼって３つ。
…カメラが調子悪くて写真が撮れなかったので、２つはカタログから。



Poland　Monika Sosnowska　１：１
ポーランドのパビリオンいっぱいに、建物の黒い鉄骨がそのまま、ギュッと押し込まれたような作品でした。
他の数多くの賑やかな作品達の中、そのシンプルさにかえって強さを感じました。もともと、こういう作品は好みです。
The Black iron frameworks squashed in the small gallery space.In the midst of other noisy works, I felt it was a simple and yet strong.

'Proyecto para un Memorial' 
ビデオ作品。日にあたって熱くなったコンクリートに水で書かれた人々の顔。
新聞やニュース番組に載っていた被害者達の顔だそうです。水は、描かれるそばから、熱さのゆえにどんどん蒸発して、私達の記憶からも消えていきます。
